About Us

‘Thank you for sharing your vision with us and with India. The work you are doing is so important for India and the world. You can be model for both’. Dr. Claire Kremen, University of California, Berkeley ‘

Annadana is dedicated to strengthening the chemical-free food movement by providing sustainable, low cost & natural farming solutions. We are not just about growing organic food but we create farm systems that work in harmony with nature to improve the quality of life for every creature involved.

We sow seeds of sustainable thinking that the way we farm has a direct impact on our health. We practice the wisdom of our scriptures that ‘If our soil is healthy, seeds are healthy, plants are healthy, fruits are healthy and in turn, we are healthy’.

Our core expertise lies in regenerating soils and conserving heirloom seeds (non hybrids & non GMO’s), which are the founding principles in sustainable regenerative agriculture. Recognised as pioneers in seed conservation, stringent seed saving protocol checks are maintained by our empowered rural youth.

Our food forest farms serve as a knowledge center for facilitating research and innovation of an integrated farming system. We’re passionate about training the next generation of regenerative organic farmers & advocates.

Developing a natural and more responsible way of ethical farming, we take the lead in growing nutrient rich foods. We eat what we grow only which is seasonal. One of the basic premises behind foods grown ecologically, as we have better chances of maintaining our health and ward off disease.

Some of our milestone achievements:

  1. Our food forest farm models are replicable & scalable.
  2. Our ‘Best Practices in Sustainable Agriculture is recognised in a National report called ‘The Vision of Antyodaya’ unveiled by Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu Hon’ble Vice-President of India
  3. Concept and creation of Seed Banks & Sustainable farm models for Meghalaya, North East India & State Horticulture farms in Karnataka.
  4. Annadana’s 2nd generation enterprising youth drive Annadana farm operations.  A remarkable precedent is set as our empowered rural youth is on board as an administrative trustee.

This successful strategy is based on the idea that farmers’ inherent skills & knowledge must be respected. Rural youth to take pride in continuing their seed legacy.

Given the historical context of feudalism in farming, there exists a tyrannical relationship between landowners & farmers. Additionally, unsustainable technology & scientific advancements have been forcefully inserted into Indian agriculture at the cost of shaming the farmer’s out of their inherent wisdom & knowledge in sustainable agriculture.

Breaking all these barriers & creating a microcosm of democracy has been the key to Annadana’s success. All decisions are taken in conjunction with empowered farmers & their youth. The combination of these aspects is the only way that Annadana’s model can fully come to fruition.
